      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian • 15 November 2024

Guardian US political correspondent Laura Gambino talks through Donald Trump’s likely next cabinet and what it tells us about his plans in power

When Donald Trump entered the White House in 2017, he came with a team of veteran Republicans, conventional politicians and celebrated generals, as well as the odd Trump ideologue or family member.

As Guardian US political correspondent Lauren Gambino explains to Michael Safi , it was often a bad fit – marked by a record churn of senior staff.

As 4B takes the world by storm, South Korea is grappling with a backlash against feminism

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian • 15 November 2024

The 4B movement that sparked global interest in the wake of the US election has grown out of an intensely unequal society

As Donald Trump secured victory in the US presidential election , an unexpected phenomenon began trending on social media: young American women declaring their commitment to “4B”, a fringe South Korean feminist movement advocating the rejection of marriage, childbirth, dating and sex.

The movement has sparked intense global interest, with millions of views on TikTok and viral X posts heralding it as a women’s rights revolution.

Sam Curran adds calm amid chaos as England seal T20 series victory over West Indies

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian • 15 November 2024

    • Third T20i: England 149-7 beat West Indies 145-8
    • Curran blasts 41 off 26 balls to revive run chase

They said St Lucia was a run-scoring paradise. Tonight, they were wrong, as England had to scrap to overhaul West Indies’ meagre total of 145-8 for a three-wicket win and a first away T20 series triumph in two years.

For the sixth match of the tour, the team that won the toss, won the game. But this result was not decided by the flip of a coin as West Indies hit self-destruct in the powerplay to lose four wickets in the first 20 balls of their innings.

Trump 2.0: are his cabinet picks more extreme than in 2016?

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian • 15 November 2024

Trump’s nominations, including RFK Jr, Matt Gaetz and Pete Hegseth, have left US figures ‘stunned’, and drawn comparisons with eight years ago

Donald Trump has wasted no time in assembling his incoming cabinet, issuing a flurry of nominations this week that – in some cases – have further heightened fears that his return to the White House will lead to an extremist agenda .

The roster of names has inevitably drawn comparisons with Trump’s 2016 victory, when he was reported to have devoted relatively little attention to a transition effort. Back then, his picks were described as “conventional” and the incoming cabinet was said have been broadly in line with that of a traditional Republican.

Cop summits ‘no longer fit for purpose’, say leading climate policy experts

      news.movim.eu / TheGuardian • 15 November 2024

Future UN conferences should only be held in countries that show support for climate action, urge influential group

    • Over 1,700 coal, oil and gas lobbyists granted access to Cop29, says report

Future UN climate summits should be held only in countries that can show clear support for climate action and have stricter rules on fossil fuel lobbying, according to a group of influential climate policy experts.

The group includes former UN secretary-general Ban Ki-moon, the former president of Ireland Mary Robinson, the former UN climate chief Christiana Figueres and the prominent climate scientist Johan Rockström.

Fossil fuel-linked lobbyists outnumber delegations of almost every country at climate talks in Baku, analysis finds

    • Cop summits ‘no longer fit for purpose’, say leading climate policy experts

At least 1,773 coal, oil, and gas lobbyists have been granted access to the United Nations climate talks in Baku, Azerbaijan, a new report has found, raising concerns about the planet-heating industry’s influence on the negotiations.

Those lobbyists outnumber the delegations of almost every country at the conference, the analysis from the Kick Big Polluters Out (KBPO) coalition shows, with the only exceptions being this year’s host country, Azerbaijan, next year’s host Brazil, and Turkey.
